Careers at ACC
Who we are
We help prevent injuries and get New Zealanders and visitors back to everyday life if they’ve had an accident. Our role is to make sure our clients get the right care at the right time while keeping levies fair and stable.
We use ACC levies to help pay for our clients’ support and recovery. All New Zealanders pay levies in different ways.

Our vision and values
Our behaviours
As important as our values are, we need a set of behaviours to help us carry them out. Our values guide what we do and our behaviours guide how we do things. To make sure our clients are truly supported, these behaviours underpin how we interact with them, our partners and with each other.
-
He tangata pono | I am accountable
I make considered decisions. I am responsible for my actions and I take practical steps to overcome challenges. We do this by achieving the ambitious goals we set for ourselves, by recognising and managing what’s important, by taking ownership, and by enhancing our own performance and that of those around us and our team.
-
He tangata kotahitanga | I am inclusive
I encourage others. I respect their different perspectives, collaborate, and make it easy for ideas to be shared. We do this by working collaboratively, valuing our diversity, engaging with other people, making things happen through and with others, and developing our own and others’ talents so that we can perform at our best.
-
He tangata mahira | I am curious
I am open to new ideas. I welcome feedback and seek opportunities to improve. We do this by challenging ourselves to continue to learn, by using data and information so that we make evidence-based decisions, by scanning the environment so that we always have a context, by taking the lead strategically, and by using influence to lead ourselves and others.
-
He tangata aro kiritaki | I am customer focused
I enable my customers to achieve the right outcomes. I am responsive, clear and transparent. We do this by championing our customers’ needs, adapting to change, living by our values, continuing to improve, and enhancing the performance of our systems and our partnerships.
We're a diverse, equitable and inclusive organisation
We're driven to be an organisation where both our people and our customers are free to be themselves. As a government agency our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi is front and centre for us.

Man 1 – “And together, we are ACC.”
So, what are we doing?
We’re aware it’s action, not words, that count. So, here are a few of the actions we’ve been taking to become more diverse and inclusive.
Equal pay for equal work
For several years now we have analysed our people’s pay to eliminate bias and inequality. We look at ethnicity and gender, as well as the intersection of those identities to ensure we pay equal. We are proud of the work we have done to close pay gaps, and we are committed to continuing this work annually through proactive and innovative initiatives. This year that includes adding pay ranges to job advertisements and not asking candidates their pay expectations at the point of hire.
Our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
We recognise that the Treaty of Waitangi is a founding document of government in New Zealand and established the country as a nation. We aim to support the Crown in its Treaty of Waitangi relationships and deliver our services in ways that enable equitable outcomes for Māori.
Employee networks - support for our people
As part of our commitment to enable our people to feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work, we are inclusive of a wide range of identity groups.
Our networks are a forum for our employees to connect with and support each other. They help us build an inclusive organisation that embraces all areas of diversity. ACC supports the networks to be safe and supportive places where people thrive – celebrating our differences, our diverse cultures, and our diverse minds and bodies.
Currently we have the following employee networks.
- Te Whānau Uenuku ki ACC - Pride@ACC
- Te Aka Wāhine - Women's Network
- Te Whānau āhei ki ACC - Ability@ACC
- Te Tira Mārama - Cross-Cultural Network
- Wairua o te Hinengaro - The Mind Network
- Te Kōtuitui Tāngata - Māori Employee Network
- Moana Pasifika - Pasifika Employee Network
