Find group-based therapy suppliers available throughout New Zealand

Released 28/03/2025

We now have a list available on our website of suppliers approved to deliver group-based therapy through the Sensitive Claims Service.

After reviewing and approving more than 165 applications for group-based therapy in February, we have increased the number of groups by 16% compared to the ISSC and now have a group in almost every region across the country.

We’re also reviewing our internal processes for group-based therapy applications to address feedback we received from suppliers. Applications for group-based therapy open in tranches. The next tranche opens on 1 July 2025.

Preparing for the next tranche

Here are a few reminders and tips to help the next application process go smoothly:

  • Room hire and associated costs, such as non-contact time for set up, pack down and liaising with lead service providers, must be outlined within the application and fall within the 12-month allocation. We can't approve these after the tranche has closed and we’ve notified you of an outcome.
  • Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) group-based therapy is intended to deliver a classically structured programme - over 52 weeks. However, DBT skills may still be learnt in a group setting and can be purchased within the max 32 hours per 12-month period allocation. We will provide further guidance on this in future.

  • Groups should only be submitted after we have approved the named service provider(s) who will be delivering the group-based therapy. If groups are proposed to be delivered by two named service providers, both must have the group-based therapy skillset approved through their named service provider application. We acknowledge there were some administrative errors on our part that caused some confusion and we’re looking at how to avoid or resolve these in future.

  • We need clear, robust proposed methods of evaluation in the group-based therapy application in order to accept it. These outcomes need to be linked to the proposed outcomes of your group. It is important to note that kiritaki feedback is largely an experiential measure, rather than an outcome measure. Suppliers must communicate their expectations on when or if providers can make group-based therapy submissions, or how their organisation expects this process to work.

  • Groups are approved for the initial term of the contract, with the opportunity to extend. Meaning you do not need to reapply each year to deliver the group.

  • Our website will be updated after each tranche with the new groups and any subsequent changes to existing groups

Thank you for your continued patience as we continue to improve the way this process works.
