Introducing the New Zealand Aseptic Technique

Released 06/06/2023

We are pleased to announce new, free resources to help reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections by using the New Zealand Aseptic Technique (NZAT).

NZAT has been developed in Aotearoa New Zealand by experts across the health sector. ACC and Te Whatu Ora Hutt Valley, Capital and Coast and Counties Manukau supported the development.

NZAT is designed for all health professionals who undertake procedures that may introduce infection, in any clinical setting. It is complementary to other aseptic education such as the Aseptic Non-Touch Technique.

Access the resources

LearnOnline has learning resources for health practitioners. It takes two minutes to create a login to access the free resources, which include:

  • an online e-learning module for healthcare providers which can contribute towards professional development
  • an in-person education package to deliver training to staff
  • an audit package to determine current practice and knowledge of aseptic technique principles. Also to identify learning opportunities
  • an aseptic technique policy template. This supports organisations to comply with the Ngā Parewa Health and Disability Sector Standard.
