Escalated Care Pathways showing positive benefits

Released 27/05/2022

Escalated Care Pathways (ECP) is our largest test of the use of value-based commissioning to achieve better outcomes for injured New Zealanders.

It aims to provide seamless care for patients with complex musculoskeletal injuries that require escalation for specialised care and treatment.

We have plans for making this service available to more New Zealanders.

What is ECP?

ECP is a client-centred service that brings together an inter-disciplinary team of providers to determine the best way to treat a client, getting them back to an outcome that is achievable and realistic.

The aim is to reduce variability of care that clients receive for similar injury types and increase the efficiency of their recovery and the ACC scheme.

It’s currently being piloted across Aotearoa New Zealand by five consortia over a four-year period (2019-2023) using a test-and-learn approach. Consortia are formal groups of different health providers. They are; Restorative Elective Surgery Services (RESS), HABIT, The Back Institute (TBI), Active+ and Careway (MyACC).
