Proposed New Zealand Income Insurance Scheme

The proposed Income Insurance Scheme is open for people to have their say.
On 2 February 2022 the Government, Business New Zealand and the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions announced their proposal to introduce a New Zealand Income Insurance Scheme. The proposed scheme is designed to give financial support to New Zealanders who lose their job through no fault of their own.
It is proposed that ACC would manage the scheme.
The public consultation is being run by the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) and is open for feedback until 26 April 2022.
Key aspects of the proposal can be found on MBIE's website.
There are also links to a discussion document which provides a comprehensive explanation of the proposed scheme, and a 16-page summary document.
You can have your say via a 15-minute online survey or provide a detailed submission on the site.
