Our 2018 report into surgical mesh-related injury claims is now available.
In early 2014, a private petition was sent to Parliament’s Health Select Committee. This petition requested an independent inquiry be conducted regarding the safety of surgical mesh in New Zealand.
Since then, we’ve made efforts to improve the way we capture data on mesh-related claims. We worked closely with Medsafe, the unit at the Ministry of Health responsible for regulating the safety of medical devices, along with the petitioners, Mesh Down Under.
