ACC getting behind Round the Bays

We’re proud to again be partnering with Round the Bays Auckland to support participation and encourage everyone to ‘Have a hmmm’ to avoid injury while pounding the pavement.

The largest fun run in New Zealand, Round the Bays is one of the country’s most iconic running events.

Every year, tens of thousands of people come together to get active, celebrate and raise money for a charity close to their heart.

First established in 1972, these days Round the Bays boasts about 30,000 participants each year.

The course takes in some of the most stunning sights in the vibrant city of Tāmaki Makaurau, winding its way along the Waitematā Harbour’s picturesque coastline for 8.4km.

The event caters for all abilities with participants having the option of competing in several different categories including jogging, walking and wheelchair.

For those who can’t be there on the day, there’s also a virtual option so you can join in from wherever you are in the world.

Bringing communities together for wellbeing

“After first supporting this great community-based event last year, we’re delighted to again be getting behind Round the Bays Auckland as an official partner,” says Tane Cassidy, Deputy Chief Executive of Prevention and Partnerships for ACC.

“Our partnership with Round the Bays is a great fit as we share the same values and aims,” he adds.

“Round the Bays is about whānau and friends coming together to have fun, be active and support each other’s health and wellbeing. This aligns perfectly with our strategic goals at ACC.

“Together, we’re proud to be working towards a healthier, happier New Zealand by encouraging people to be active and take part in this wonderful event.”

‘Have a Hmmm’ to avoid injury

ACC will also use its relationship with Round the Bays to further promote the importance of injury prevention.

We receive around 14,000 claims for running-related injuries every year, and there are many things you can do to stay injury free while running.

Ways to ‘Have a Hmmm’ when running include wearing correctly-fitted shoes, warming up properly, running at a comfortable pace, warming down, staying hydrated and allowing time for rest and recovery.

“Running is great for your health and offers so many benefits, both physical and mental,” Tane says.

“We encourage all New Zealanders to stay fit by running regularly, but you should always remember to ‘Have a hmmm’ to avoid injury so you can keep doing the things you love.”
